E-fuel - electrofuels

E-fuels (or electrofuels) are synthetic fuels produced by combining hydrogen (obtained through water electrolysis using electrical energy) and carbon (extracted from CO₂ captured from the air or exhaust gases). They are designed to replace traditional gasoline and diesel, utilizing the existing infrastructure without modifying engines. Although they are considered "climate-friendly" because they do not require petroleum, their production process is highly energy-intensive: it takes about five times more electricity compared to an electric car. For this reason, it is expected that e-fuels will mainly be used in air and maritime transport and for historic vehicles, while for everyday cars, the future remains electric.
