Using solar energy to charge your car

Anyone with a Daze solar PV system can also use Solar Surplus mode.

This feature makes it possible to charge the car exclusively with surplus solar energy. When solar generation exceeds the energy consumed by other devices in the home, the surplus can be directed to the vehicle without drawing electricity from the grid during the charging session.

In this way, the wallbox helps coordinate two increasingly common elements in modern homes: solar energy generation and electric mobility.

Solar Surplus mode can also be used alongside scheduled charging. Users can decide when to charge based both on the availability of self-generated energy and on the times when grid electricity is more affordable.

Solar energy management is therefore no longer separate from EV charging, but becomes part of the same household energy balance.

Load Balancing manages the available power

During a charging session, the electric car shares the available power with every other device operating in the home. Ovens, induction hobs, washing machines, air-conditioning systems and other appliances can temporarily increase household energy demand. Without proper management, total consumption could exceed the property’s contracted power limit.

Load Balancing, or dynamic load management, automatically adjusts EV charging according to what is happening in the home.

With the optional Power Meter, Dazebox One autonomously monitors household consumption and adjusts the power supplied to the car, preventing the contracted power limit from being exceeded. When the home requires more energy, charging power is reduced. As consumption from other devices decreases, more power becomes available to the vehicle again.

Everything happens automatically, without any action required from the user. There is no need to unplug the car when switching on an appliance or to constantly monitor energy consumption. In other words, charging adapts to the home, delivering a truly worry-free experience.

A system that can manage up to eight chargers

Dazebox One can act as the main device in a network comprising up to eight chargers in total.

Communication takes place via Modbus TCP, using either Ethernet or Wi-Fi in a master/slave configuration. In this setup, Dazebox One acts as the master, coordinating the system and distributing the total available power among the different charging points.

This option is particularly useful in homes with multiple electric vehicles, shared garages and small apartment buildings. It also makes it possible to start with a single charger while preparing a system that can adapt to future requirements.

Built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet

The characteristics of the installation site can affect which type of connection is most suitable. A garage, private parking space or shared residential car park, for example, may not have the same network coverage as the inside of the home.
